My name is Sam, and I am the Deputy Manager of Monkey Puzzle Grange Road

What fills your heart with happiness about your role?

I love that I am a part of the children’s development from taking steps to running in the garden, saying single words to full conversations. Its amazing.

How did you get your career started in Early Years?

I had a few jobs before I started my career in childcare. At one point I held a forklift license, but those were never forever jobs for me. I started working in childcare when I was 19 and within 18 months, I had passed my level 2 childcare qualification and was already on my way to completing my level 3.

How do you get supported at Monkey Puzzle to develop and progress your career?

During my supervisions and appraisals, myself and the manager will sit together to see if there is any training I wish to complete. We have an amazing online training provider which we can access at any point to complete any extra training.

What’s your potential next steps?

I would really like to complete my Quality Teacher Status

What would you say to anyone with a choice of early years childcare as a possible career path?

Every day is different but always rewarding. Take pleasures in the little things (a child saying your name for the first time is the best!)
