💙 We are feeling so grateful! 💙
A huge thank you to one of our wonderful nursery families for this incredibly thoughtful staff appreciation gift. 🌞🍦
Along with the gift, they shared this beautiful message with us:
“Thank you all for your help and support and for making the nursery so fantastic for T. He absolutely loves it here, and I appreciate all of your hard work and all the amazing activities that you provide. ❤️❤️❤️
From T and family.”
Reading such kind words means the world to our team. Knowing that the children are happy, thriving, and excited to come to nursery is the greatest reward we could ask for.
Thanks to this generous gift, our team is all set for the rest of the summer, and those heatwaves don’t seem quite so scary anymore! ☀️❄️

Today in the forest, we engaged in a nature memory game. We began with ten objects that the children counted together, helping them memorise both their identities and positions. Next, we covered the objects with a cloth while the children closed their eyes. One object was then discreetly removed. When the cloth was lifted, one object was missing, and the children had to use their memory to identify what it was. They took turns guessing, and sometimes they assisted each other when they struggled to remember.
This activity enhances working memory, focus, and observation skills. It also fosters cognitive, sensory, and vocabulary development, all while allowing children to engage with the outdoors.

Today in the toddlers' room, the children had a wonderful time exploring nature and discovering bugs in our garden. They spotted a bumblebee, a butterfly, a fly, and a ladybird. The children took interest , playing among the flowers and near the butterfly tree. They learned that butterflies have wings to fly and that they start as caterpillars before they evolve. When a butterfly came close, the children couldn’t help but laugh and point while they are flying around.

Choosing a nursery can be quite daunting for new parents. We’d love for you to share your experiences and tips on what factors were important to you when selecting a nursery for your little one. Here are some key aspects that parents often consider during nursery visits:
✔️Warm, happy atmosphere – Trust your instincts. Do the children look happy, engaged, and comfortable? Are staff smiling and interacting positively?
✔️Caring, qualified staff – Ask about staff qualifications, experience, training, and how long they have worked there. Low staff turnover often means children benefit from consistent relationships.
✔️Strong key person system – Every child should have a dedicated adult who knows them well and supports their learning and wellbeing.
✔️Learning through play – Look for a curriculum that encourages curiosity, creativity, independence, and development through meaningful play rather than formal teaching.
✔️Outdoor opportunities – Children should have regular access to outdoor play and experiences that promote physical development and exploration.
✔️Communication with families – Ask how the nursery shares updates about your child’s day, progress, and learning, and how nursery involve parents.
✔️Settling-in process – A good nursery will offer gradual settling sessions tailored to your child’s individual needs.
✔️Healthy meals – Find out what food is provided, whether menus are balanced, and how dietary requirements are accommodated.
✔️Parent feedback – Speak to current parents or read reviews to understand their experiences.
✔️Ask questions – Don’t be afraid to ask about routines, sleep, behaviour guidance, toilet training, staff ratios, and how nursery supporting children’s individual needs.
The best nursery isn’t always the one with the newest building or the most toys—it’s the one where your child feels safe, valued, and excited to learn, and where you feel confident leaving them in the care of the team.

👩🎨🧑🎨👨🎨🐒🧩At Monkey Puzzle Grange Road, we offer wide range of extra-curricular activities including Forest School, our STEM room, cooking classes, and our newly added art class. Our fantastic practitioner, Maria, introduces the children to a different artist each month. This month, the focus is on Wassily Kandinsky and today the children learned about his famous piece, "Several Circles." In our art class, the children have the opportunity to develop their creativity, self-expression, and confidence. Engaging with art helps children to explore various materials, colours, and textures, promoting emotional wellbeing, cultural awareness, and problem-solving skills, all of which lay the groundwork for lifelong learning and artistic appreciation.

We commenced the construction of our musical wall in the forest. The children helped by moving the new pallet to the designated spot. Once there, they donned their safety gloves and picked up hammers, receiving some assistance to drive nails into the pallet. Later, they repurposed old pots, pans, and broken watering cans to transform the wall into a musical installation. After finishing the first stage, we experimented with the sounds produced by our makeshift instruments.
This activity encourages collaborative play, while the actions of lifting and reaching for hanging items contribute to strengthening their core muscles and improving upper body control. By using variously sized spoons and sticks to strike the pans, the children enhance both their gross and fine motor skills. They collaborate to form a band, take turns, and discuss the different sounds they encounter. This exploratory play allows them to investigate sound, rhythm, and cause-and-effect, all while promoting physical coordination and cooperation in an outdoor environment. As they strike different objects, the children can hear repeating beats and patterns. This early grasp of rhythm lays the groundwork for future mathematical skills, including sequencing and algebraic thinking.

🐛🦋The children was exploring the journey of a butterfly, starting from its earliest stages right through to adulthood. We began by discussing where caterpillars live and how long they usually stay snug in their cocoons, which can be anywhere from 5 to 21 days. This counting activity not only helped the children with their sequencing skills but also introduced them to some new vocabulary. Then, we took a closer look at the butterfly life cycle, focusing on each stage of development: from egg to larva, then to caterpillar, and finally blossoming into a beautiful butterfly.
