At Monkey Puzzle Grange Road, we love finding creative ways to keep cool while keeping young minds active. On a recent warm day, our toddlers enjoyed an exciting water play area inspired by the famous artist David Hockney. Transforming swimming pool art into a representation of the iconic London landmark Tower Bridge, our outdoor space became a vibrant hub of artistic expression, sensory exploration, and cool relief from the hot weather.
Small World Adventures and Creative Story telling
Sensory and small world play opens up a universe of imagination for early years children. Using a toy London bus and handmade paper boats, the children happily splashed through the water while engaging in rich imaginative play. Placing toy figures carefully inside the bus, they excitedly declared they were off on a grand journey to London. Activities like this nurture early language skills, creative storytelling, and social confidence as children share their imaginative journeys with one another.
Rebuilding Tower Bridge with Problem Solving Skills
When our Tower Bridge model came apart, the children turned a minor setback into a fantastic learning opportunity. Using their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, they set to work reconstructing the landmark by carefully balancing tyres on top of each other. Hands-on extra-curricular activities like this help children develop persistence, spatial reasoning, and critical problem-solving abilities through natural trial and error.
