Exploring Nature Through Memory Games at Monkey Puzzle Grange Road
At Monkey Puzzle Grange Road, we believe some of the best learning happens outdoors. Our Forest School sessions provide children with exciting opportunities to explore nature while developing important cognitive and social skills through fun, hands-on activities.
A Nature Memory Challenge
During one of our recent Forest School sessions, the children took part in an engaging nature memory game using a collection of natural objects found outdoors.
Together, they counted ten different items, carefully observing what each object was and where it was positioned. Once everyone had memorised the collection, the objects were covered with a cloth and the children closed their eyes. One item was quietly removed before the cloth was lifted, leaving the children with the challenge of working out which object had disappeared.
The children took turns sharing their guesses, often working together and helping one another when they found it difficult to remember. It was wonderful to see their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills in action.
Learning Through Outdoor Play
Activities like this support a wide range of areas of development while making learning enjoyable and engaging. As the children searched their memories, they were strengthening their working memory, concentration and observation skills. They also expanded their vocabulary as they named and described the different natural objects they had discovered.
Forest School experiences encourage children to become curious, confident learners while helping them build a meaningful connection with the natural world.
